Ethnic communication and AI: reach diasporas without stereotyping audiences

Moving from a supposedly well-documented category to a documented need. Our approach to ethnic communication is based on the context, diversity of paths and quality of the relationship.

The decision to prepare

Moving from a supposedly well-documented category to a documented need. Our approach to ethnic communication is based on the context, diversity of paths and quality of the relationship.

Defining what we are trying to understand

The term "ethnic communication" is used to refer to approaches to audiences sharing cultural, linguistic or migratory references. We treat it here as a subject of methodology: how to make a message relevant without presenting a community as a homogeneous whole? A strategy begins with a specific question, not a list of signs to be added in a visual.

Our reading: usages before shortcuts

A diaspora includes different generations, languages, social situations and relations to the country of origin. A transportation campaign, cultural offer and financial service meet different needs. We recommend that these needs be formulated in concrete terms: preparing a trip, understanding an offer, finding information or sharing a moment. Cultural reference is useful only if it improves this understanding.

What models can amplify

A generic tool can reproduce recurring associations between a word, appearance and decor. An aesthetically convincing image does not prove that its representation is correct. So prepare a list of controls: diversity of situations shown, place given to people, consistency of clothes and places, absence of caricature and agreement between image and promise. Ask for several proposals with detailed choices to facilitate discussion.

Build an understanding test

We propose a limited qualitative protocol, presented as such: to show the message to people affected by its use, to ask what they understand, what they feel is artificial and what they would do afterwards. Do not transform a few opinions into a representative measure of a population. Record the comments and changes made. This return is particularly useful for a mixture of languages, a synthetic voice or a humorous reference.

Ramadan: Check the data perimeter

The seasonal guides of the platforms can help prepare questions, provided that they verify the countries covered. Microsoft Advertising, devoted to Ramadan 2026, states that its analysis is based on internal data from 2025 covering six markets, including no Maghreb country. It does not, therefore, allow for a description of the behaviour of Moroccan, Algerian or Tunisian audiences. A local recommendation should complement this basis.

The relationship counts after creation

The response to a message, customer service and the arrival page must respect the same attention to languages and context as the campaign. A multilingual device loses its consistency if the request cannot be understood after the click. Our recommendation is to designate people able to read, respond and correct. Artificial intelligence can support their work; the responsibility for the relationship must remain visible.
